Carlin Copenhaver’s dealership with Topline Steel began after he sold Lucas Hocker a building in Kansas City.
Luke saw Carlin’s talent and suggested to Kim and Jacob that they bring Carlin onboard as a partner. “I couldn’t imagine selling for another company,” explains Carlin. “They are tremendous people — honest and easygoing. It’s a family-owned business and a great organization. I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity!”
Carlin does things a little different than the Hockers. He runs his own concrete and erector crews, and designs his own buildings. Carlin does everything else in-house as well, including calling in quotes, selling jobs to customers, and writing building contracts. Even though Carlin is tied indirectly to the office, “I’m treated as an equal owner of the company.” Carlin enjoys the freedom Topline Steel allows him in making decisions. There’s an open market for business, and Carlin and the Hockers share sales leads.
Customers are Carlin’s number one priority. “My father taught me to never do anything to someone else that you wouldn’t want done to yourself,” says Carlin. “So I treat every building as if it were my own.” Carlin is 100% dedicated to customer service, and follows up with each one of his buildings after construction.
